Lesson
The first lesson in getting to know AMMERSE for your personal values.
AMMERSE is a system built on seven core principles: Agile, Minimal, Maintainable, Environmental, Reachable, Solvable, and Extensible. These principles serve as a guide, not just for businesses, but also for individuals seeking to understand their values and how they operate within a team context. Each principle represents a different aspect of personality and work ethic, providing a framework for self-discovery and personal growth.
AMMERSE provides a unique lens through which to view your values and personality traits. By understanding each principle, you can identify which ones resonate most with you. Are you someone who loves reaching goals and solving problems? Then the Reachable and Solvable principles might define you. Or perhaps you’re all about adaptability and future growth, aligning more with the Agile and Extensible principles.
Take time to reflect on each principle and consider how it manifests in your life. This process of self-discovery can help you understand your strengths, passions, and areas for growth. It can also guide you in making decisions that align with your values, leading to greater satisfaction and success in your personal and professional life.
Authenticity is about being true to who you are. It’s about recognizing your values, passions, and strengths, and living in a way that aligns with them. When you understand your AMMERSE values, you gain insight into what drives you, what you care about, and what makes you unique. This self-awareness allows you to live authentically, making choices that reflect your true self.
Being real means acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses, your successes and failures. It’s about being honest with yourself and others. Your AMMERSE values can help you be real. They provide a framework for understanding your capabilities and areas for improvement. By embracing your real self, you cultivate self-acceptance and foster genuine relationships with others.
To be AMMERSE is to live according to the principles that resonate with you. It’s about embodying these values in your daily life and interactions. Whether you’re Agile, Reachable, Solvable, or all seven, your AMMERSE values are a part of who you are. Embrace them, live them, and let them guide you towards a fulfilling and authentic life.
In conclusion, AMMERSE is more than a set of business principles. It’s a tool for self-discovery, a guide to understanding your values and how they shape your life. By discovering your AMMERSE values, you can live more authentically, be real, and ultimately, be AMMERSE.
Here are some ideas that could help you discover your AMMERSE values.
Be careful not to mislead yourself. Being absolutely honest means forgetting about what you think the right answer is.
Think of what honestly excites you the most on a project. Is it the start, prep, the ideas or is it the end, the reward, the feedback?
Does this resonate?
In the interest of sharing and to help you unblock yourself and get to who you are, let me share myself with you. I hope it will be helpful to you.
I enjoy the larger picture, the building blocks and how they connect, the system as a whole. Since this is my default mindset, Environmental suits me very well. I can fit into any environment quickly and see the big picture, where I am able to gather context and questions and experiments. I see relationships, forces and I love balance. This means that although I am capable of being agile, I prefer homeostasis, with small tweaks to experiment and see if it works.
As a software programmer, bonsai grower, musician actor, I have always enjoyed language design, frameworks, components, stories, the arc, the settings, sets etc. This big picture, modularized mindset, plays well with building reusable and interrelated components while seeing the whole.
This mindset helps me frame problems and present overarching solutions that solve many issues, not just one. Extensibility is important, as I like building ecosystems, where plugins and small tweaks can be integrated into the existing environment.
On the flip side, I am not at my best when simply writing a straight forward feature that two people may use, a dead-end project or throw away code. I don’t enjoy continuous chaos, continuous change. My mind will resist and try to find the real reasons behind the change. If it makes no sense, I will resist. It must make sense. Necessary change that will boost the Environment, not for the sake of change.
I enjoy solving problems, but environmental, rather than individual low impact problems.
Maintenance is not a strength of mine and I need others who enjoy maintaining and providing minor improvements to be around me.
I am a chess piece and so are you. We can’t all move in every direction, we need others to compliment us. This is why you must know who you are and how you fit.
Exercise 1: Identify Your AMMERSE Values
Take a moment to reflect on the AMMERSE principles. Which ones resonate with you the most? Write down the principles that you identify with and provide examples of how they manifest in your life.
Exercise 2: Set Reachable Goals
Using the Reachable principle, set a few personal and professional goals for yourself. Make sure they are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Write down the steps you need to take to reach these goals.
Exercise 3: Problem-Solving Challenge
Embrace the Solvable principle. Think of a problem you’re currently facing. It could be personal or professional. Write down possible solutions and the steps you need to take to implement them.
Exercise 4: Embrace Change
In line with the Agile principle, identify an area of your life where you’re resistant to change. What steps can you take to become more adaptable in this area?
Exercise 5: Simplify Your Life
Reflect on the Minimal principle. Identify areas of your life that are overly complicated or cluttered. What steps can you take to simplify these areas?
Exercise 6: Plan for Growth
Using the Extensible principle, think about where you want to be in five years. What skills or experiences do you need to get there? Write down a plan for personal growth and development.
Exercise 7: Reflect on Your Environment
Consider the Environmental principle. How do you interact with your environment, both physically and socially? Are there changes you can make to have a more positive impact?
Exercise 8: Maintain Your Progress
Reflect on the Maintainable principle. How can you ensure that the changes you’re making are sustainable in the long term? Write down strategies for maintaining your progress.
NOTE:
Remember, personal development is a journey, not a destination. Take your time with these exercises and revisit them as often as needed.

7 Principles: Agile, Minimal, Maintainable, Environmental, Reachable, Solvable, Extensible.
The AMMERSE Set has weights assigned to 7 Principles. eg. “Enterprise Strategy”.
AMMERSE Sets in a grouping that work together for a purpose. eg. Modes.
You can extend AMMERSE by creating your own Sets and Frameworks.
Our goal is to enable business strategy, implementation and the reaching of objectives by giving you the tools to design your own methods.
